A War Bond B-17 Fortress dedicated to the men from Lodi who had lost their lives in war. £300,000 was collected in the 2nd Bond Drive in Lodi California during Spring and Summer of 1943. Initially, the Buy-a-Bomber Campaign was aiming to sell sufficient bonds to pay for a Mitchell B-25 medium Bomber but the required sum was surpassed and there was enough for a heavy bomber instead. By August 1943, the bomber had been named, photographed and despatched to a USAAF unit.
