Citizens of Pulaski County, Missouri collected a total of $341,787 in the 3rd War Loan drive and $75,000 was used to "purchase" a Mustang fighter. "The Spirit of Pulaski County" was the chosen title for the aircraft which was also used to honour the name of a local man, Wayne Bandy, who died at Pearl Harbour on board USS Arizona.
