$150,000 was raised by citizens of Centralia, Illinois in their bond selling campaign in November 1943. $40,000 of the funds was raised by public auction of various donated items given by local people. Centralia was, according to newspaper reports, the first Illinois city to be presented with a new B17F Fortress.
