This shiny new B17G model looks to be another of the War Department's retouched photos.
Resulting from the 4th War Loan Drive in November 1944, it was purchased with $371,188 bonds by members of the 3rd District North Carolina Federated Women's Clubs in Watauga.
In the 6th War Loan Drive the same group aimed to raise another $172,000 in bonds to fund a PB4Y Catalina flying boat for the US Navy. It is not yet known if this target and purchase was achieved.
