One of more than 40 Thunderbolts purchased through War Bonds bought by employees of its manufacturer Republic Aviation Corporation. This reputedly completed 200 missions without suffering a technical abort. it finally retired from operations at a special ceremony. In addition to the dedication plaque on the fuselage the planes was also painted with the ribbons of a DFC, Air Medal and a Purple Heart.
