Scarlett O'Hara

This C-53 arrived in the UK on 5th August 1942 to be assigned to 8AF later in the year. On 13th November 42, it was despatched to Algeria for assignment with 12AF where it was loaned to the RAF for use by Air Chief Marshal Tedder, Mediterranean Air Command and modified for VIP usage.

It returned to the UK in October 1944, still used as VIP transport until down-graded to an instructional airframe early in 1947. Three years later it was purchased by Scottish Aviation at Prestwick but was ultimately destroyed in a crash in Mexico in 1968.
