61st Troop Carrier Group

Pellican Pappy

Assigned to the 61st Troop Carrier Group's 14th Squadron, this Skytrain was based at Barkston Heath in England and took part in the resupply mission on 7th June 1944 (D+1)when it was hit by flak in the wing. Numerous other operations were also flown which included paratrooper drops and medivac missions.

Note the spelling of "Pellican" with two L's.

Photographic evidence indicates that this C47 flew four paradrop missions and a freight haul as part of the "Operation Husky" invasion of Sicily. If anyone can add further information on this troop carrier and its crew I would be pleased to learn more.
