Buschwacker
B-17G

Appearance
Buschwacker

This B17G was purchased with war bonds bought by staff and employees of the famous Anheuser-Busch Co, brewers of the popular Budweiser beer. The funds were contributed in 1944 but the airplane was another of the War Dept's airbrushed photos and it is almost certain that an actual B17 was never painted with such a title.

Aircraft losses at the time were such that replacements had to be immediately despatched to the war front and no time could be spared for elaborate christening ceremonies the likes of which occurred in the earlier months of war.

Anheuser-Busch employees raised sufficient funds for a second B17G named 'Miss Budweiser', but this too was an air-brushed publicity photo.
