This B25 Mitchell was purchased as a result of the 1943 War Bond "Buy a Bomber" campaign by students at San Jose High School in California. Started on 4th January the campaign raised the required $175,000 for a medium bomber by the 22nd, together with generous excess of nearly $80,000 which was used to buy a PT torpedo boat.

It seems that this aircraft was used for training purposes and may not have ever left the USA. It survived hostilities and was involved in a ground accident on 24th June 1946 at Wendover Field while assigned to 145 AAF Base Unit. It is curious coincidence that on that day "San Jose Hi-School" was under the command of Lt Kirk Mitchell.
