A B17F purchased from Buy-a-Bomber Campaign War Bonds sold through the General Federation of Woman's Clubs in 1943. This was probably one of the many planes which were not actually named but existed only as a retouched photograph for publicity purposes.
By the end of the war the GFWC had collected enough funds to purchase the equivalent of 431 aircraft of various types. A phenomenal achievement. If any one can provide further information or photos of any of these I would be delighted to have the chance to study it.
