The 79th Fighter Group re-equipped with P47 Thunderbolts to replace their out-dated Warhawks. This one was assigned to Capt Richard Long.
Note in addition to its title "Pistol Packing Mamma" spelt with a double "m" the artist has also added two small Vargas pin up girls. These look to have been cut from the Esquire magazine and pasted on to the fuselage.
